The OnePlus Open folding phone launching “soon”

At a press event yesterday, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus Open folding phone will be revealed “soon.” Considering this phone has been delayed since August, it’s about time we heard something about when it’ll be launched.

The company did say “soon” with no specifications as to how soon, but according to tipster Max Jambor, the first foldable from OnePlus will launch on October 19th. That date is about two weeks after Google is anticipated to be announcing the latest Pixel devices.

The current rumored specs are as follows:

• 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED inner display and a 6.3-inch AMOLED front display. Nothing has been mentioned about what the outer display resolution would be.
• Both inner and outer displays will have a 120Hz refresh rate.
• Will use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
• Have 16GB of RAM.
• 256GB internal storage.
• A sizeable 4800mAh battery with 67W fast charging.
• A 48MP primary lens, a 48MP Ultrawide shooter, and a 64MP telephoto.
• A 32MP front-facing camera is on the outer display and a 20MP shooter is on the inner display.

The OnePlus Open is expected to be sold in the US, making it the third folding phone available along with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 and Google’s Pixel Fold. The latter two will cost you about US$1700, so we can only assume the OnePlus Open will be close to the same price.

As someone who has the Galaxy Z Fold4 and skipped the Fold5 and Pixel Fold, the OnePlus Open might be something I’ll upgrade to.
